Cottonwoods stand peacefully in the mist between snowstorms.

It might snow again. The hills sleep between the silent trees and the mountains, and are lost among heavy blankets of fog. The luxuriant life of summer is dormant, buried under snow, fast asleep; and all its birdsong and bustle has long ago echoed into welcome, restful silence. The long slow meditations of winter drift silently between the dark branches, and along the gently tumbling mists of deep midwinter.
