Stones and roots conjoin near the river that shaped them.
I was out hiking with my kids (I wonder how many of my drawings start out that way?). The trees had spread their roots among the smooth alluvial stones at the river’s edge. Repeated flooding and recession of the water had removed the looser soils, leaving the live roots wrapped among the stones. I love how in the soft focus and shadows of this piece, the water that shaped both rocks and roots seems to pour among them like drops and rivulets, bubbles and flows.
