This lake is set into a groove between mountain ridges pointing northeast, so that in the summertime, the sun rises with a bang. I love how the flat, direct light plows into those trees, the grass and rocks at the water’s edge, and instantly sets everything on fire (no matter how cold it is). The shadowy talus slope across the water only intensifies that brilliant burst of dawn.
